Wild elephants are attracted to  man made water holes to quench their thirst due to the sweltering heat in Masinigudi, The Nilgiris, India. I photographed this from the safety of a watch tower.

After seeing this post some of my friends were able to identify the elephant in this post as ‘Rivaldo’. Now you may ask how this beautiful giant got its name. Usually wild animals don’t have a name do they? Well this is Rivaldo the elephant made famous by the late Mark Davadiar. Rivaldo used to visit Mark Davadiar’s property ‘Chital Walk’ in Masinigudi. Davadiar had nursed an injured Rivaldo back to good health a few years ago. To know more about Davadiar please search in Wikipedia.
